Spring Program Descriptions

Co-ed Grades 2/3 Session
This program emphasizes fun games that use basketball to teach fundamental movements and introduces beginning basketball skills. Basic movement skills include the ABC’s of agility, balance, coordination and speed. Specific basketball skills taught include stance, footwork, dribbling, passing and shooting. These skills will be developed through a variety of small-sided games and competitions. Your child will surely fall in love with basketball after attending this high energy, fun filled session! The Co-ed Grades 2-3 Session is limited to the first 32 registrants.
Dates: Wednesdays, April 15 – June 3

Development Grades 4-8 Session
All “Development” programs will be modeled on Canada Basketball’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. For more info about the LTAD, please click HERE. Each player will learn basic skills, strategies and rules that allow for future development, according to their physical and emotional maturation level. Weekly sessions will include a mix of individual drills and contests in a fun-filled learning atmosphere. Areas of focus will include: shooting mechanics, basic ball handling skills, one on one moves, defensive stance, and an introduction to basketball specific strength and conditioning. A typical session involves 45 minutes of skills and competitions, followed by 30 minutes of small sided half court games or full court scrimmaging. All Development sessions are limited to 32 registrants.

Monday Games Night!
This 8-week program is designed to improve skills and basketball IQ through team concepts by doing what every player loves… Playing Games! During the first 3 weeks of the program, players will be introduced to offensive concepts (pass/cut/replace motion principles, pick and roll, penetrate and kick, spacing…) and defensive concepts (help and recover, seeing ball and check, weakside defense…) After the third week, four teams comprising 8-10 players will be made. Each team will be assigned a WVBC Coach who will lead their squad through a 3 week “Regular Season” and 2 weeks of “Playoffs”, culminating in the Spring Finals being played on Monday June 8th. All full-court games will be played 4 on 4 to ensure every player gets lots of touches of the ball.
